roaring 20's.

This past weekend was the weekend of birthday celebrations and lots and lots of cake. Katy and Erica used their creative artsy skills to design a roaring 20’s birthday party for Erica’s husband Ryan- everything about it was well done and sophisticated. Guests (around 45 or so) were asked to come in 20’s attire, the decorations were sleek and old fashioned, even the drinks fit the time period! Katy and Erica worked on preparations all day (they even made their own dresses!) and I joined the festivities in the early afternoon, with a borrowed silver sequined flapper dress in hand. My task: the cake. Definitely my project of choice! I even got to use my new apron. Erica had already baked the layers themselves, so after they cooled I tackled the icing and assembly. The final product was a 4 layer Italian Cream Cake with cream cheese frosting and coconut- de.light.ful. Let’s just say I sampled quite a bit in the process! Other items on the menu were maple roasted ham, herbed potatoes, cheddar and herb biscuits (my other project) and a fruit and feta spring salad. Everything turned out beautifully- we ate outside at a long table, then most of the men broke out cigars and smoked until the rain moved the party inside for dancing and chit-chatting until around 10 when everyone realized that they had to be up at 6am the next morning for church and decided to head home. It was such a well done party! I hope Katy and Erica can apply their beautiful design skills and wedding planning business to a wedding of mine someday :)
