i had a lot to prep for on wednesday, getting mostly packed and making sure i had all necessary cooking ingredients for the party. with packing my lunch for thursday and making sure my car was no longer leaking (that was the big event of the week, a very leaky car in a very rainy city. bad combo. i was carless for a day or so while they fixed it), i got out of the car at work to find that i left EVERYTHING on the kitchen counter. backpack, lunch, water bottle, office key, wallet. uh, someone tried to plan ahead a little TOO much and got ahead of herself. maybe i thought i had already put it in the car?? who knows. i thought i was going to have to run back home and get it, but it turns out that bill needed help prepping for the big christmas staff party that he was catering for the next day. susie and i spent the day in the kitchen instead, which was enjoyable, at least to me! i learned how to make chocolate bomb truffles and helped with the lemon squares, as well as chopped a ton of veggies to make veggies baskets with. we did the crossword puzzle at lunch as usual, then headed home a little early.
gary came over a little bit later to bake for the party- we made homemade pizza (sauteed mushrooms and red onion, walnuts, fresh parsley, pear, and gorgonzola), 7 layer bars, and chocolate cookies, some with mint and some with peanut butter. i think we used almost every bowl in the house, and left a mountain of dirty dishes in the sink when we ran out the door a few minutes late for the party. it was alright though, we were some of the first ones there. it didn't really kick off until around 7, when we broke the foil off all the delicious dishes that people brought and dug in! lasagna, homemade pizza, fresh spinach salad, veggie antipasto, bread, black bean and corn quinoa, and more. we loaded up our plates and chowed down as katy and dorina made the rounds, taking a silly picture with everyone in the room. then the whole group played a game where you had to act the part of whatever theme was shouted out- girls first, then guys. we took a ton of photos to document. i think the desserts impressed all of us, sugar cookies, chocolate cookies, 7 layer bars, chocolate cheesecake, homemade lemon merangue pie, homemade pumpkin pie, and gelatto, to fit the italian theme. then a mad dance party erupted, and when the lobby closed at ten, the crew relocated to the goetz house for some remote control helicopter fun and more conversation.
all in all, it was a great night with great friends. unfortunately, my alarm was set for a mere 2 hours after i got back home....that's hardly even a nap. by the time i did the mountain of dishes and finished packing, i think i was a walking zombie.
off to the airport the next morning to catch a 6am flight- sunrise from the plane was beautiful. AND i got to see the city lights beforehand, double bonus. i love flying.
